IT’S A FALL FOOD FEAST
Goats benefitting from the fruits of the season
Goats tasting some fall season treats.
Be it for decorating, cooking, or baking, pumpkins and apples are abundant during the fall. If you happen to be including them in festive meals, instead of consuming them by yourself or tossing the leftovers away, think of your dear farm friends. Give those amazing fruits one more chance and feed them to the goats as treats. Sources say the nutrients from these products can be beneficial to their digestion.
While goats will thank you for this act of kindness, it is advised to do it in moderation. Feeding these products in large quantities could upset their stomachs. Although, we’ve seen goats in our area eating large quantities of leftover pumpkins to their hearts content, it is advised to chop them into small pieces and remove the seeds, if possible. Consider using the same advice when feeding them apples. Remember, a small treat once in a while won’t cause harm, but large quantities could.

Another benefit this practice provides is that instead of sending scraps or excess apples and pumpkins to the landfills, you’ll help to reduce waste by giving these nutritious products one more use.
