Our goats are kidding! For real!

We are not kidding when we say, “Our goats are kidding!” because they truly are! They are not doing it in a comical manner, but in the most natural and cutest way possible. Yes! Many of our *does are giving birth to little *kids in this period known as “kidding season.” Can you imagine how joyful this period of time is? Just picture yourself watching baby goats jump all over the place and hearing their cute voices bleat as loud as they want. It is absolutely precious!

Kidding season is an important time of the year for farmers. For us, at Dottie’s Goat Farm, it is when we welcome the new crew members that will help in wildfire risk reduction through the goatscaping method, in the years ahead. During this period, we make sure to place the pregnant goats in a separate pen. This area allows the does to give birth and nurture their babies without being stressed or bothered by the rest of the herd. We also feed them high quality hay, like alfalfa, and continue giving them access to water and minerals to help strengthen their nutrition. These practices are crucial to help with goat survival.

So far, this 2026, has welcomed us with five new kids on the ranch. Luckily, almost all moms are taking excellent care of their new babies. Unfortunately, a doe rejected one of her twins. No kidding! This was hard to watch and meant that we had to intervene immediately to nurture the goat ourselves to save it. Luckily, the kid has been growing stronger each day and seems to be on its way to a full recovery. (Follow the journey on social media!)

We love kidding season and we are enjoying every minute of it. Unfortunately, for us, it goes by quickly because baby goats grow very fast. Plus, as we control the size of our herd, it may be a while until we can experience this joy again.
